Tackling Madhyamik History - published in TTIS on 23-08-2003.
Dr. A. Samuel Raj, Rector, Nopany Group of Schools, tells us how to tackle the Madhyamik History paper, simply and effectively.
You should be thorough with/have the grasp of the whole History syllabus and be prepared to tackle any question that may be asked. Some questions are repeated over the years and you should be through with the answers.
In Madhyamik, only 24% of the marks are allotted for objective and short answer questions carrying 9 marks and 12 marks respectively. Be familiar with the techniques of presenting essay type answers.
Students face the problem of time adjustment in the History paper and it is not wise to spend more than 18 minutes for each essay carrying 9 marks. Attempting all the questions is more important than writing a few essays very elaborately and not attempting the rest of the questions for want of time.
Dates are important in History and should be given wherever relevant A simple sketch map may be drawn to indicate the places mentioned in your answer.
Practise these, by way of time charts in your History map notebook. Learning the answers by heart should be avoided, as the syllabus is too vast.
It is better to prepare your answer in point form in your note book under paragraph headings, underlining key words with colour pencils and memorising the points before the examination. Write the answer in your own words. Presentation is very important. It should be in form of small paragraphs with each having a heading. Apt quotations may be given wherever relevant. Each answer should have a proper introduction and conclusion. I hope these tips I have put before you will be helpful in your exams.
